Well a notebook can be cooled(unlike the overheatin 360 lol). Plus with a notebook, it can be used for other tasks other than gaming, unlike the 360, where it can play games...and movies

I doubt there is going to be a Yes/No, clear-cut answer to this question.

I believe each "gadget" exists for their own purpose. You can't get a laptop that gives as good a performance for the same price as the 360. And you can't get a 360 that does everything the laptop does for the same price either (simply because there isn't one; and there isn't one because it's not feasible/possible to do it)

Well, the price ratio for the two will be like 4:1...

Well, there are MANY things to consider here. I’ll just approach some.
One thing is that PC games in general are always well ahead console games (especially if you get a high end machine). Just go to Gamespot and you’ll see their comparison of the same game released for both systems and generally its always the pc version that has the sharper visuals and better experience. According to gamespot, Prey for the PC is sharper and better looking than the XBOX 360 counterpart.
Secondly, PC games usually require maintenance. From downloading the latest patches to updating your drivers. PC games tend to give some people a harder time since you don’t just pop in the disc in your machine and it works straight away. On the flipside, there are million of modifications available online, FOR FREE! They include extra mission, graphical enhancements, and additional multiplayer maps that add more to the games value.
Finally, just like some other people mentioned, a laptop is more than an excellent gaming machine.

Er, depends on what you want to use it for.
If you buy a notebook crammed with the best, most powerful hardware there is, it'll be about as good at games as the 360. But it'll cost around 10 times as much, and weigh about as much as the 360. But hey, if playing games on a 15" screen with a touchpad and too small keyboard is your idea of fun, it should be a great match. ;) (No, I know you can hook up external screen, mouse and keyboard, but then why are you buying a notebook again?)
The 360 is made for games. Simple as that. A notebook is made to be able to do lots of things, and carry it around as well.
Which is most important to you?
If you really want a gaming PC to compete with the 360, I'd say just get a friggin' desktop. If you're considering a 360, mobility obviously isn't a priority anyway.
Oh, and finally, the games available for the two platforms differ. Maybe you should decide whether you prefer the games available for PC or 360 first?

Re: High End 15.4" Laptop vs. XBOX 360?
Usually people get gaming laptops because they need a new laptop anyway, so as long as they're spending the money, might as well get a beast of a machine. That's what I did. My old C640 was fine for like typing and powerpoints and junk like that, but it just didn't hold up too well to the engineering applications that I was starting to use for classes, and it was a 4-year-old Dell that was starting to break from all my abuse. So I decided to get a new one, and figured I might as well get one that will let me play the latest games very nicely. So I got the M90 at an incredible deal.
However, as I have started getting into PC gaming, part of me still loves the old consoles. The thing that I hate most about PC is the fact that games these days take up a LOT of hard drive space. F.E.A.R. is taking almost 5 gigs, NFS:MW is taking almost 3. The Half Life 2 demo is taking almost 4. And especially in notebooks, hard drive space is very valuable. With consoles, everything stays on the disk. You just have to worry about game saves. But what do I love about PC gaming? If you have a good computer, it looks much better. But my favorite aspect is demos. The ability to play a game before you decide if you want to buy it is freaking awesome. But the bottom line is that if you want a pure gaming machine and have no needs for a laptop's other uses, just get a 360. It's much cheaper for more power. To get a laptop that's going to be as powerful as a 360, you're looking at spending close to 1500 bucks or more depending on what brand.

Yea, i hear a little about what you are saying...
i currently have a GMA 900 laptop, and i've learned my lesson that GPUs dont always play the games you want...some of the latest DX9 stuff won't even run on my pc.
but the 360...you know it will work, because the hardware doesn't change over time...games just get better at using it. APIs are the same, and nothing about "this won't work because it doesn't support that..." if a 360 label is on a game cd, it is guaranteed to work.
sorry, but i got burnt with this laptop as far as gaming goes...they said that most things would run, but at low settings (which was fine at the time)...no one said that most things just wouldn't run period!
BTW, looking to get a X1600 if i get a new notebook...how does that compare to the 360 in terms of graphics? i think that most of the games that i enjoy are on both platforms...maybe...

I had an Xbox 360 - it's alright but NOT worth it unless you have Xbox live. That said its the fraction price of a high end notebook and is a powerful machine....as others said it all depends on what you want. If you plan on only playing games I'd go for a 360.
I sold my 360 and got a mid range gaming laptop (in sig) so I could play LAN games at my friends house, or play Battlefield 2 online when someone else was using my main desktop. For those tasks its great. However if I didn't have friends to play LAN with or net access to play games on when the desktop was taken, I'd find single player gaming rather pointless on a 15.4" laptop screen.
Oh, and the X1600 is a nice card - could run current stuff like F.E.A.R and Battlefield 2 just as good as what you'd see on the 360. With some really demanding games like Oblivion though, only a very good gfx card will hands down beat the 360 version so don't expect TOO much from the X1600 card. Still though, the X1600 is a good card overall that will run current games on nice mid-high settings depending on the game.
And Finally - yes the GMA 900 is awful for games. It's pretty decent for older games that use outdated engines like Call of Duty, Quake III, Wolfenstein, etc - newer games that use newer engines, forget it really. Sorry to hear you got burnt on it, but at least you'll know for the future.
