Question though and I apologize for the laymen terms etc...I'm looking to transfer files form the dell to the acer, so I need to set up a network...how do I do that and do I need 2 yellow/ethernet cords?? I also have a lynksys router.. do I need anything else??
please spell it out for me, step by step how to do this..my friend who knows computers is on vacation for a week and I don't want to wait that long!!

You can use the router you have and 2 ethernet cables. The 2 computers plug into the router, in the usual 4 ports. Then this is from my guide:
so that may be my problem right there I only have one ethernet cable (yellow) I have one that looks identicle to it but is blue, as well as a blue USB cable....
Yess, if its an Ethernet Cable (Wide looking phone jack) there alright. Colors by far don't have anything to do with it and a USB isn't going to work.

Are you sure one is not a crossover cable? If so you can link the PCs directly without the need for a router. Generally cross overcables are orange, but I have seen yellow.

well I was coming on here to say I figured out by just directly connecting the laptops (plus looking in the right file helps too) so Zazonz you were on the right track lol
