weighs 3.27 pounds and can be equipped with advanced features such as a fingerprint sensor, a Super-Multi DVD drive, and Super AG™ wireless LAN technology

Fujitsu P7000 Ultraportable Notebook Released July 13, 2004
“Since its introduction, the Fujitsu LifeBook P Series has received countless accolades for its incredibly small, feature-packed design,” said Paul Moore, director of product marketing for mobile computing at Fujitsu Computer Systems. “We take the meaning of ‘full-featured’ seriously. From its modular Super-Multi DVD drive to its impressive array of ports and media slots, the LifeBook P7000 notebook is definitely a leading contender for the most full-featured ultraportable on the market.”
Mobile professionals will certainly appreciate the notebook’s optional fingerprint sensor. With the swipe of a finger the biometric functionality can eliminate the complexity of managing multiple passwords. On average, computer users have to remember up to 10 to 20 passwords so they can sign on to their network, email accounts, Web sites, online bank and credit card accounts, corporate applications and more. The fingerprint sensor replaces all of these passwords with a virtually infallible means of personal identification.
Students and frequent travelers will love the notebook’s multimedia functionality. The LifeBook P7000 notebook features a modular bay that can accommodate a Super-Multi DVD drive, bay battery or weight saver. Users can slide in the Super-Multi DVD drive to save and share music, videos, photos and data onto virtually any DVD or CD format. On the road, they can watch DVD movies or swap the drive out with a bay battery to get up to nine hours1 of battery life. The notebook also includes a full-size S-Video out, a full-size external monitor port, two USB 2.0, IEEE 1394 and audio connectors, as well as dedicated Memory Stick PRO/SD and Compact Flash card slots for fast and easy storage and file transfers of music, pictures and data.
The LifeBook P7000 notebook is powered by an efficient Ultra Low Voltage Intel® Pentium® M Processor operating at 1.10 GHz and uses the enhanced Intel® 855GME chipset. Users who opt for the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection will benefit from Intel® Centrino™ Mobile Technology. The notebook is also available with an Atheros wireless module (802.11a+b/g) for those who want to take advantage of the increased throughput and range provided by Atheros Super AG™ wireless LAN technology.
Pricing for the Fujitsu LifeBook P7000 notebook starts at $1,5992.

Answer: Mine is on order, I'll have a review posted in a few weeks with side-by-side shots of the P5020.

Answer: Does anyone know if the P7000 supports the Hitachi 7K60 7200RPM Drive?
This looks far better than the Sony TR line. Just the fact that it has the 855GME/DDR333 vs. the 855GM/DDR266 is a major plus over the Sony TR lineup. That's why I won't buy the TR5.
If this supports any 2.5 HDD like the 7K60 then I'm ordering one ASAP. Very nice! I may have found my notebook! Finally!
I've given up on the Asus W1N. Asus Doesn't seem to want to upgrade their video card to the 9700 and be up on technology and I'm tired of not knowing what their next move is. I guess they don't want our business. It's too bad, I sure would love a ASUS W1000N with the Dothan 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM, and 128MB VRAM/Mobility 9700. I will not get one till I can get it with those specs.
Answer: Yep, the P series, including this model support standard notebook drives. No idea why Sony uses the 1.8, bad move. Consider ordering from www.laptopsinc.com. They have the best prices and return policy for Fujitsu.

Answer: wow, very nice indeed.
If only someone could come out with a (slightly larger?) laptop with a decent graphics chip (64mb radeon 9600 or 9700 really should not be too difficult to cram in there), and even with the 1.1 Ghz cpu, graphics performance would be greatly improved over the built-in)
Now that would be a laptop I would buy in a heartbeat.

Answer: This is a SA-WEEEEEET machine, the connectivity just blows me away (PC-Card AND CF.....SD AND MemoryStick)....awsome. I'll be looking forward to this review. I almost placed an order but better judement stepped in...getting ready to go on vacation and don't think the wife wants to just sit in the hotel. If the reviews are good, I think I'll retire my Libretto L5.
Answer: Damn that looks sweet, I'm tempted to order it on special from laptopsinc.com, but I'm curious about the super multi DVD that will be available in August, that's a DVD writer right? How much extra would it cost?
Answer: Right, that's a DVD burner. Price has not been confirmed yet, but expect it to be a few hundred dollars.

Answer: So is it actually selling at "price starting at $1,592" somewhere? the lowest I could find was 1799
Answer: I'm waiting for them to actually include the multi drive option.
ultimate notebook for my needs.
and mind you the fujitsu website says the DVD writer is going to be multiformat.
so sweet.
any idea if they are going to add "dothan" (Intel 733 ULV processor already released) and internal bluetooth?
those two are also imp requirements for me.
